Video Review On A Glass Door Shower
Hinge:
Doors are
found in walls, vehicles, cupboard, cages, containers,
refrigerators etc. Every door needs a hinge which will
fix the doors to the walls.
Glass doors
are generally found in shower rooms, air conditioned
rooms, glass cabinets, malls etc. Door hinges are
necessary for any kind of doors because it acts as a
barrier between the wall and the
door.
Separate
door hinges are available for glass doors. They type of
door hinges vary based on the size of the door and the
place in which it is fitted. Glass door hinges mainly
consist of two parts. It has a backing plate and a glass
cut out.
The main
purpose of the glass cut out is to protect the door from
hitting the wall. The door can be opened till the wall
but it never hits. This is achieved because the glass cut
out is cut deeper in to the backing
plate.
Wall
mountable doors are larger when compared to other glass
doors. So glass door hinges for wall mountable doors have
a short backing plate. Short backing plate enables the
door to move up to the wall.
The backing
plate latches the glass door. The rotating hinge connects
the backing plate with the plate attached to the wall.
Wall mount screws are used to fix the hinge to the wall.
The edge of the hinges can be squared or beveled. Square
edged hinges can be used for large
doors.
In case of
small doors like refrigerator doors and cupboard doors
large backing plate is used. Full backing plates do not
provide room for complete rotation of the door. This is
sufficient in case of refrigerators and
cupboards.
The inside
cabinet can be accessed with partial door movement. This
is also applicable in case of small cabinets having glass
doors. Some of the dressing table cabinets also have
glass doors with full backing plate.
Frameless
doors with beveled edges can also be found in many
places. Full backing plates are used to hinge them. In
case of full backing plates the wall mountable screws are
a bit away from the backing plate when compared to short
backing plate.
The hinge
pin is secured inside a support called shower which
connects the wall and the door. So these glass door
hinges restricts complete rotation of the
door.
The
thickness of the glass should also be considered while
selecting the hinges. Shower door glass is ¼” thick. The
latches used for this is expensive.
Specs cut
out latches can be used for a glass of ¼” thickness. If
the angle between the wall and the door is not 90 degrees
adjustable back plate hinges can be
used.
Glass shower
doors should be fitted with knobs and vaults. Offset
backing plate hinges have screws which are secured inside
the shower.
So the
screws are not seen outside. The brackets and latches of
the hinge are of same color so the assembly looks good.
